Perfect

Over at HumidCedar's, courtesy of Notorious MJT We are discussing perfect albums.

I personally was remiss for not including Jackson Brown's "Running On Empty" in my comments on the subject.

My first year in college, I bought a cassette tape, which I still listen to, which has Jackson Browne's self-titled album on one side, and Running on Empty on the other. Both are great, great albums. How familiar are you with that first one? It includes "Doctor My Eyes" and "Rock Me On the Water." As much as I like Lives in the Balance and Lawyers in Love and the one you mentioned, I kind of feel like that first one is his most solid, next to The Pretender.

Dan, that is an exellent point. I now rember having the same tape. I think I had blended the two togather in my head. One of the coolest things I ever saw was Jackson Brown doing nearly all of "Running on Empty" as an encore at Aqua Fest. He had players from about six different bands up on the stage with him but finishing the show play "Stay" alone on the stage with just his piano.

I think Running on Empty is a flawless telling of life on the road, all the things you hate, all the things you love, all the things that are slowly killing you, and all the things that keep you alive all juxstiposed togather perfectly with no easy answeres offered.

If are going to start looking at all of J.B's albums I would have to add
"Lives In THe Balance" for concideration as a possibly perfect album as well. At the very least it is as perfect a "Cry For Sanity" album as the late 80's ever saw.
